The G20 is a multilateral cooperation forum consisting of 19 major countries and the European Union (EU). The G20 represents more than 60 percent of the world’s population, 75 percent of global trade and 80 percent of the world’s GDP.
G20 members are developed and developing countries that have middle and high income levels
The G20 members consist of South Africa, United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Russia, France, China, Turkey and the European Union.
The G20 does not have a permanent leader or chair, because the leadership is carried out by a presidential function held by one of the member countries for one year.
History and objectives of the G20 Quoted from Kontan, the history of the G20 began in 1999 as a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors. At that time, the meeting was intended to discuss policies in order to achieve international financial stability. This forum is an effort to find solutions to the global economic conditions hit by the global financial crisis in 1997-1999. This meeting involved middle-income countries and had systemic economic influence, including Indonesia.
Nine years later, on November 14-15, 2008, the leaders of the G20 countries
gathered for the first G20 summit in the United States. On that occasion, the country’s leaders coordinated the global response to the impact of the financial crisis that occurred in the US at that time and agreed to hold a follow-up meeting.
